In recent times, the promotion of sorcery and witchcraft on social media, especially on the "TikTok" and "Instagram" platforms, has escalated. A number of users are publishing content that claims to offer solutions to emotional, financial, or health problems through rituals and methods linked to superstition.
These practices are no longer limited to mere publishing; in many cases, they have turned into paid services, exploiting the vulnerability of certain groups, especially young people and women, where promoters demand money to provide witchcraft services such as "attracting a lover" or "marriage." In this context, accounts promoting materials allegedly related to witchcraft have emerged, offering them for sale or use, which poses a real threat to the social fabric, given the dangerous psychological and behavioral effects of these practices, in addition to spreading a culture of superstition and moving away from rational thinking. In light of this situation, calls are rising for the necessity of the Public Prosecutor's Office to intervene firmly, by activating the laws related to combating fraud and following up on anyone proven to be involved in exploiting citizens through these platforms. It is also expected to strengthen mechanisms for monitoring and tracking cybercrimes to limit the spread of these accounts that operate outside any legal framework. Observers believe that addressing this phenomenon also goes through intensifying awareness campaigns and sensitizing citizens to the danger of following such claims, in light of the growing role of the digital space in influencing individual and collective behavior. In addition to demanding the Public Prosecutor's Office's intervention, observers believe it is necessary to educate social media users to report accounts and pages that broadcast, publish, and distribute this type of content that threatens society.
