HIBAPRESS – Fikri Ould Ali
The landfill located in the "Beni Hariza" area, belonging to the municipality of Beni Boufrah in the Al Hoceima region, has turned into a black spot that worries the residents and those following environmental affairs, after it has become a real threat to a natural and ecological space distinguished by its richness and diversity.
Despite the area's rich environmental and tourist potential, the continued exploitation of this landfill under unsuitable conditions, and the absence of proper waste treatment, have made it a source of pollution in various forms, whether at the level of air or soil, in addition to its potential impact on nearby water resources. The local population has expressed its displeasure on more than one occasion with this long-standing situation, pointing out that the problem has been ongoing for years without any signs of a radical solution appearing on the horizon. This file also raises real questions about the extent to which the concerned authorities, whether at the local or regional level, are committed to their roles in protecting the environment and ensuring the proper living conditions for citizens. In light of this worrying situation, calls are increasing for the urgent intervention of the competent authorities, in order to find a sustainable solution for this landfill, either by rehabilitating it according to the approved environmental standards or by finding an alternative that respects the ecological balance of the region. Hope remains pinned on an actual and responsible move that puts an end to this environmental degradation, and restores the value of a natural space that deserves protection, in order to preserve the health of the population and preserve the natural resources for future generations.
