HIBAPRESS
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced today, Saturday, that he had asked Pope Leo XIV to open an embassy in his country, which the Pope agreed to, according to his claim.
The strange thing about the matter, the details of which Tebboune revealed during his periodic media meeting broadcast by Algerian official television on Saturday evening, is that the Holy See (Vatican) already has an embassy in Algeria since 1972. Followers on various social media posts were surprised that Tebboune made such a serious mistake, considering that the head of state's request to "open an embassy from an entity that already has diplomatic representation" is a disaster by all standards. In this context, activist Najib Al-Adadi commented on the topic, saying: "I don't understand what kind of hashish Tebboune uses," adding: "How can he say in his statement tonight that he asked the Pope to open an embassy for his country in Algeria and the Pope agreed to his request, while the Vatican has had an embassy in the Algerian capital since 1972."
