The primary court in Rabat has convicted YouTuber Mohamed Reda Tahraoui of defamation, based on content he previously published via "YouTube" containing accusations against Prince Moulay Hicham.
According to the decision, the court ordered the person in question to pay a fine of 100,000 dirhams, in addition to civil compensation in favor of the complainant amounting to 600,000 dirhams, with an order to delete the clips containing the phrases subject to prosecution, and to publish the judgment on the same platform. The facts of the case date back to a video clip broadcast by Tahraoui, which included allegations that were considered offensive and damaging to reputation, including talking about large financial transfers abroad without providing evidence to prove their validity, which prompted the complainant to resort to the judiciary. In this context, Prince Moulay Hicham explained in a previous statement that the initiation of the legal proceedings came within the framework of defending his personal reputation, stressing his support for freedom of expression, but within the limits of responsibility and respect for others, away from what he described as methods of defamation. He pointed out that he had requested financial compensation, considering that the goal was to direct it to support initiatives concerned with the ethics of media practice.
