The ordinary session of the Fes municipality council for the month of May was unable to convene this Thursday morning due to the lack of a legal quorum, after a limited number of council members attended, in contrast to the absence of the majority of the management components.
According to the available data, attendance during the opening session was limited to members from the opposition, which prevented the session from starting in accordance with the legal provisions governing the work of local communities, and it was postponed to a later date in accordance with the procedures in force. It was expected that the session would include the discussion of a group of points related to the management of local affairs, including files of a financial, developmental, and service nature that concern the city's population, before the absence of the quorum led to the postponement of deliberation on them. This situation raised questions within local circles about the reasons for the absence of the majority members, especially in light of the importance of the files included in the agenda, and what they require of discussion and interaction within the elected institution. In contrast, a number of observers considered that the repetition of the scenario of the absence of the quorum in some sessions reflects the size of the challenges associated with the management of municipal councils, and raises issues related to the extent of harmony within the components of the governing majority. A new date is expected to be set for holding the session, in accordance with the organic law of local communities, in order to complete the study of the points included and take the related decisions.
