US President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that Iran cannot use the Strait of Hormuz against him, noting that Tehran had used the strait as a weapon in the past, as he put it.
Trump said in an interview with the American network "Fox News": "They (Iran) have been holding the world hostage with their will through the Strait (of Hormuz) for many years. They have done this many times and said they will close the strait and used it as a weapon." He added: "They cannot use it as a weapon against me. Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz in the past and used it as a weapon." Trump confirmed: "I thwarted Iranian attempts to make a nuclear weapon twice, and if they had it, they would have used it," stressing that "the Iranian nuclear threat would have targeted Israel, the Middle East, and Europe," as he claimed. He continued: "The Strait of Hormuz will be open, and we will ensure that they do not possess a nuclear weapon and that the stability of the world continues," noting that "he was prepared to accept the price of oil reaching $200 to prevent them from possessing a nuclear weapon that they would inevitably use against us."
