Mohammed VI sent a message to the President of the French Republic, His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Macron, following France’s announcement of its official support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its desert.
Here is the full text of His Majesty the King’s message:
” Mr. President of the Republic,
I received with great interest the important message that you kindly addressed to me on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Feast of the Throne.
I extend my sincere thanks to you for your warm wishes and your personal commitment to strengthening the partnership between our two countries.
I also welcome, in particular, the clear and firm position adopted by France, in your letter, on the question of the Moroccan Sahara.
I highly appreciate your country’s clear support for Morocco’s sovereignty over this part of its territory, and France’s constant support for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as a solution to this regional dispute, and therefore for the consolidation of the plan presented by Morocco since 2007, as the only basis for achieving this.
By recognising the legal foundations and historical rights of Morocco, France is helping to strengthen the international dynamism that many countries already support, in order to put an end to a conflict inherited from another era.
Thanks to the very significant evolution of the French position and your strong determination to act accordingly, on the internal and international level, our two countries will be able to work together to reach a solution which fully respects, within the framework of the United Nations resolutions, the sovereignty of Morocco over its desert.
The Moroccan people and its vital forces are aware of the importance of this resolution, which was issued by a permanent member of the Security Council, who is well acquainted with the past and present of North Africa and has witnessed up close the evolution of this regional conflict.
In this context, and thanks to the positive dynamism observed in our bilateral relations, promising horizons are opening up for our two countries in many strategic sectors, which will contribute to strengthening the exceptional partnership built, for decades, on friendship and trust.
In this perspective, and as we indicated during our previous contacts, I will be happy to receive you in Morocco, as part of a state visit, the date of which will be determined through diplomatic channels.
Please accept, Your Excellency, my highest expressions of gratitude.
