HIBAPRESS – A. Muhyawi
Teams from the Public Laboratory for Experiments and Studies began, on Thursday, the process of taking field samples from the site of the collapse of the residential building in the Ain Naqbi neighborhood. This is within the framework of the ongoing technical investigations to uncover the real reasons behind the tragic accident, which left a state of shock and sadness among the residents.
The site of the tragedy witnessed the presence of specialized committees and experts, where samples were collected from building materials, soil, and components of the collapsed building, in order to subject them to thorough analysis to determine the extent of compliance with the quality and safety standards adopted in construction, as well as to identify the factors that may have been behind the collapse. This technical step comes in parallel with the continuation of search and inspection operations carried out by the local authorities and specialized agencies, amid a great alert around the accident, at a time when intervention efforts and support for the affected continue. The collapse of the building in the Ain Naqbi neighborhood resulted in a state of widespread alert in the city of Fez, especially with the increasing demands to open a comprehensive investigation to determine responsibilities and arrange the legal effects resulting from the accident, which brought back to the forefront the problem of dilapidated buildings and urban safety standards. The results of the technical expertise supervised by the Public Laboratory for Experiments and Studies are expected to contribute to uncovering the circumstances of the tragedy and determining the direct and indirect causes that led to the collapse of the building, as the Public Prosecution also opened investigations into the matter.
