The French authorities have imposed a set of strict measures to regulate the slaughtering of sacrifices as Eid al-Adha approaches, as part of a plan aimed at controlling illegal practices and enhancing health and environmental control within various provinces.
The authorities have emphasized the need for Muslim communities in France to adhere to slaughtering operations only within approved slaughterhouses, warning that any violation of these rules may lead to penalties of up to six months in prison and a fine of up to 15,000 euros. The French Ministry of the Interior explained that these measures come within the context of protecting the health of consumers and ensuring the safety of meat, in addition to respecting animal welfare standards and preserving the ecological and food system. The concerned parties called on citizens to go to licensed slaughterhouses or seek the help of approved butchers or organized points of sale, to meet their meat needs legally and in an organized manner. The authorities also allowed licensed breeders to transport live livestock to approved places according to precise conditions, which ensure respect for transport regulations and health safety. The competent authorities announced the launch of intensive inspection campaigns that will continue until June 11, to monitor the transportation of animals and verify their identity and slaughtering conditions, with stricter control over any potential violations. The authorities affirmed that meat or sacrifices slaughtered or transported illegally may be subject to confiscation, as part of a strict policy aimed at controlling all stages of the process during this religious occasion.
