HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Elbaz
Italian Foreign Minister "Antonio Tajani" sparked a wide wave of interaction on social media platforms, following the circulation of satirical posts and comments that linked his family name to the Tijani Sufi order, which is widespread in a number of African countries, including Morocco.
Electronic pages and accounts circulated posts claiming, sarcastically, that the Italian minister spoke about his family's "Tijani origins," in a satirical context related to the political debate taking place within Italy regarding immigration and Islam, especially in light of the positions of the hard-right represented by Deputy Prime Minister "Matteo Salvini". However, the data circulated is not based on any official statements or documented historical facts, while those following Italian affairs confirm that the matter is primarily about satirical content based on the phonetic similarity between the name "Tajani" and the "Tijani" order, which goes back to the Algerian Sufi "Ahmad Tahraoui". This digital controversy comes at a time when the Italian political scene is witnessing an ongoing discussion about issues of identity and immigration, files that raise sharp divisions within the components of the government coalition in Rome.
