The city of Laayoune witnessed, during the late hours of Saturday, May 30th, an assault described as serious, after a young man was subjected to a group attack by a number of people under circumstances whose full details are still unclear.
According to data circulated widely across social media platforms, the victim was heading towards his jacket placed near the sidewalk, before being surprised by a violent attack, where he received repeated blows, especially to the head, which left serious injuries. The same sources add that the attackers forcibly transported the young man into a commercial store, before closing the door, which raised the astonishment of the followers and questions about the motives and contexts of this behavior. Despite the incident occurring late at night, away from the eyes of passersby, the circulating data indicates that surveillance cameras documented part of the events, both before and after the assault. Information was also circulated indicating the appearance of people the following day dealing with surveillance equipment inside the store, in a move that followers considered a possible attempt to erase evidence that may be related to the incident, pending what the official investigations will confirm. The security directorate of Laayoune announced, hours after the video was circulated, the arrest of the main suspect, along with four other people who appeared in the clip, where the first was subjected to judicial investigation procedures according to the instructions of the Public Prosecutor's Office, while the others were placed under custody.
