Labor market: 5 regions are home to 72.3% of workers

Five regions were home to 72.3% of all workers aged 15 and over in the second quarter of 2024, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

The Casablanca-Settat region is in first position with 22.6% of active workers, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (13.5%), Marrakech-Safi (12.8%), Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (12%) and Fez-Meknes (11.4%), specifies the HCP in its information note relating to the situation of the labor market in Q2-2024.

According to the same source, three regions have activity rates higher than the national average (44.2%). These are the regions of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima with 50.1%, Casablanca-Settat with 47.1%, and the South with 44.8%.

On the other hand, the lowest rates are recorded in the regions of Béni Mellal-Khénifra (40%), Oriental (40.4%) and Souss-Massa (41.4%).

Regarding unemployment, five regions concentrate 69.5% of the unemployed. The Casablanca-Settat region comes first with 25.8%, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (13.3%), Fez-Meknes (11.9%), the Oriental (10.4%) and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (8.2%).

The highest unemployment rates are observed in the Oriental region (21.4%). The highest unemployment rates are observed in the South (22.9%) and Oriental (21.1%) regions.

With less acuity, three regions exceed the national average (13.1%) namely Casablanca-Settat (14.9%), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (14.7%) and Fez-Meknes (13.6%).

However, the regions of Marrakech-Safi, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Drâa-Tafilalet recorded the lowest rates, respectively 8.1%, 8.9% and 9.6%.
