The interests of the Spanish group CIRSA in Morocco are heading towards a transition within a new international entity, following its agreement with the Italian group Lottomatica to merge in a deal valued at approximately 2.8 billion euros. This operation is expected to make the resulting group the second largest publicly traded company globally in the gaming and sports betting sector.
The operation holds particular significance for the city of Tangier, as CIRSA owns 76% of the Tangier Casino. This stake will become, upon the completion of the merger, part of the portfolio of the new group, which will retain the Lottomatica name.
According to the Spanish group's data, the Tangier Casino is linked to an operating agreement with the Mövenpick Hotel for 12 years, commencing in November 2022. As of March 2025, the casino housed 128 gaming machines and 22 tables.
CIRSA's presence in Morocco is not limited to Tangier; it also holds stakes in Casino Atlantic and Casino Le Mirage in Agadir, in addition to a 50% stake in the Grand Casino de La Mamounia in Marrakech, which the group acquired in November 2025.
Internationally, the deal will consolidate the activities of both groups under the Lottomatica name, with a headquarters in Rome and offices in Barcelona. The adjusted operating profit of the merged group is expected to reach around 2 billion euros, with annual savings estimated at 115 million euros before taxes.
However, the transition of CIRSA's interests in Morocco, including its stake in the Tangier Casino, will not be effective immediately, as the process is still subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
It is worth noting that both groups anticipate completing the merger during the second quarter of 2027.
