HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyaoui
The National Rally of Independents (RNI) party in the Fez-Meknes region has entered a new phase of the upcoming legislative elections on September 23rd, amidst developments related to the fate of its regional women's list, after failing to complete the procedure for submitting the amended list within the legal deadline.
According to data from identical sources, the list was initially rejected due to the legal status of one of the candidates included in it. The party then worked to amend its composition and replace the concerned names in an attempt to rectify the situation before the deadlines for submitting candidacies expired.
However, the second attempt was not successful, as the completion of the submission procedures within the legal deadline was not possible. This has put the party's regional women's list out of the race, pending the outcome of the judicial procedures initiated by the party to appeal the decision.
These developments come at a time when the regional women's list holds significant political and electoral importance, given the weight of the seats allocated to the region and the strong competition expected among the various parties. The RNI list had topped the results of the 2021 regional elections, securing two out of ten seats, led by Zeina Chahim and Samira Kssiyour.
Amidst these developments, a debate has emerged within political and party circles regarding the management of the list preparation process, the criteria for selecting candidates, and the extent of preliminary scrutiny of their legal statuses before their names are included.
However, assigning political responsibility to a specific individual remains, at present, a matter requiring official data and clear stances from the party leadership, especially in the absence of an official statement identifying responsibilities or providing a detailed explanation of the circumstances of what happened.
Furthermore, any discussion about the responsibility of Zeina Chahim, or any other party leader, remains within the scope of political and media discussion unless officially confirmed by the relevant authorities.
Conversely, the incident opens a broader debate within the RNI party about the mechanisms for managing candidacies and the effectiveness of the file review process before submission to the competent authorities, especially since any error at this stage could have direct repercussions on the party's electoral presence.
While the party has chosen to resort to the administrative judiciary in the hope of reintroducing the list into the competition, attention is turning to the judicial decision that will determine the fate of this file, away from the interpretations and political controversy surrounding it.
Thus, the issue of the RNI's regional women's list in Fez-Meknes has transformed from a mere problem related to nomination procedures into a real test of the party's ability to manage the electoral phase and ensure the integrity of its lists and respect for the deadlines and legal procedures governing the upcoming elections.
