Today, Friday, Algerian Iman Khalif is preparing to compete in the final of the 66 kg boxing competition against Chinese Yang Liu, and aims to win the first gold medal in the history of her participation in the Olympic Games, after winning the national championship and African titles and gold at the 2022 Mediterranean Games.
The French-speaking Algerian website “La gazette du fennec” reports that French President Macron promised Algerian boxer Iman Khalif to come and encourage her at the 2024 Paris Olympics, if she managed to pass all the qualifying rounds and reach the final.
The French President visited Oran in August 2022, and during this visit met a group of Algerian athletes led by boxer Iman Khalif.
During his meeting with the Algerian athletes, a conversation brought together Macron and Khalif, and the French president promised to attend the final to support her if she qualified for the Paris Olympics, where he told her: “If you reach the final of the Olympic Games in Paris, I will come especially to encourage you.”
Today, Friday, Algerian Iman Khalif will face her Chinese opponent at the Roland Garros arena in the French capital at 9:51 p.m., and observers will wait to see whether or not the French president will keep his promise regarding Khalif’s boxing.
As a reminder, Iman Khalif was the subject of widespread attacks and a campaign of harassment in the media and social networks during her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
