The Egyptian Olympic Committee on Friday referred wrestler Mohamed Ibrahim Al-Sayed Kisho, who competed in the Paris Olympics, to the Bodies and Ethics Committee for investigation after French police arrested him on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female customer at a bar.
A statement from the Egyptian Olympic Committee said its president, Yasser Idris, had decided to refer the player to the Committee of Bodies, Clubs and Ethics headed by Major General Sherif El Gomati to investigate the “irresponsible behavior” attributed to him, after the end of his participation in the competitions of the Paris Olympic Games, and a few hours before his return trip to Egypt.
Idris instructed the head of the Egyptian delegation, Alaa Gabr, to investigate the player’s absence.
The head of the Egyptian Wrestling Federation and the head of the wrestling delegation reported that the player left the delegation with the permission of the head of the wrestling delegation to attend the last wrestling match in his weight category, and that he did not return to the delegation headquarters and turned off his phone.
Idris called on the committee of organizations, clubs and ethics to strictly apply the regulations against the player and any other official of the wrestling delegation found responsible for these acts.
The Olympic Committee’s statement said that if the player’s violation is proven, the sanction could go as far as permanent disqualification and exclusion from the game at local and international level.
French police have arrested Kicho on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female customer at a bar, prosecutors said.
According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, he was arrested in front of a café in the 13th arrondissement of the capital at around five in the morning, accused of having “put his hand on the buttocks of a customer” of the bar.
The Paris prosecutor’s office has handed over the investigation to the third district of the judicial police. It was not immediately confirmed whether the wrestler was currently in police custody.
According to the newspaper Le Parisien, he was arrested and allegedly committed the act while he was “completely drunk”.
