Spanish journalist Jota Jordi, a collaborator with the program "El Chiringuito", announced that Barcelona club will not engage in the initiative where a number of La Liga players wore shirts bearing messages of support for occupied Ceuta, considering that the Catalan club sees a political dimension in this issue.
Jordi said, during his participation in the program, that Barcelona "will not get involved in a Spanish political issue", clarifying that the club's decision differs from Real Madrid's stance, which left its players free to determine their position on the initiative.
The Spanish journalist added that Barcelona "never shies away from social issues", and that "if it has to do something, it will do it, but it will not get involved in politics", referring to the club's refusal to wear the shirt during its upcoming match at the Camp Nou.
Jordi's statements come in the context of the controversy that accompanied the initiative of wearing shirts bearing the phrase "Todos somos caballas" (We are all from Ceuta), which has seen participation from players from a number of La Liga clubs since the start of the season.
Moroccan international Abdessamad Ezzalzouli had sparked wide debate after appearing in the shirt during the Real Betis match against Villarreal, while Real Madrid players Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappé, and Ibrahima Konaté chose not to clearly display the phrase during the match against Elche.
Jordi clarified that Barcelona has not yet made any gesture of support for occupied Ceuta, confirming that the club does not intend to change its position during its match against Racing Santander, on Wednesday evening, as part of the La Liga competitions.
