The anti-gang unit of the judicial police in the Laayoune security directorate, last Thursday, managed to apprehend a 23-year-old young man with a criminal record, on suspicion of involvement in the distillation and promotion of "Mahia" liquor.
The suspect was arrested in possession of 45 small bottles of "Mahia" ready for sale. A subsequent search of his residence in Al Wifaq neighborhood led to the seizure of equipment used in the distillation process, including four pressure cookers, four stoves, and four gas cylinders, in addition to 660 liters of fermented raw materials and another 16 bottles filled with the liquor.
The suspect has been placed under police custody pending a judicial investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, to uncover all the actions attributed to him and to determine the circumstances of the case.
