The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, announced on Tuesday in New York that the Kingdom of Morocco is running for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028-2029 term.
In a speech delivered on behalf of Morocco during the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Bourita affirmed that this candidacy is part of the Kingdom's determination to contribute effectively and responsibly to the preservation of international peace and security.
He explained that the candidacy also aligns with a realistic and solidarity-based vision for international cooperation, with full respect for international law, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Bourita, who is leading the Moroccan delegation during the 81st session of the General Assembly, added that the Kingdom's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council is based on a diplomatic legacy spanning several centuries and embodying His Majesty King Mohammed VI's vision as a promoter of stability and sustainable development in the world.
He indicated that this candidacy will allow the Kingdom to continue serving peace, collective security, and multilateralism, in full respect of the principles and objectives set out in the UN Charter.
The minister concluded that this candidacy reflects the continuous contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to the three pillars of the United Nations: peace, development, and the rule of law.
