The page of legislative elections across the nation has been turned. Here, specifically, the province of Settat secured eight seats: six parliamentarians and two women. The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) led with 15,016 votes, followed by Al-Arabi Sharri' from the Apple symbol with 13,786 votes. Then came the Independence Party's Bouchaib Hamid Allah, who garnered 13,786 votes. Following him was the Palm Tree Party's Massoud Oussar, who won 9,402 votes, then the Justice and Development Party's Ali Fadli with 9,177 votes. Finally, Mohamed Ghayath from the National Rally of Independents (RNI) secured 8,128 votes. In addition, two women parliamentarians were elected from the regional list with the Palm Tree and Apple symbols, in legislative elections where the participation rate in the province reached 41.03%.
We know with certainty that the role of a parliamentarian is confined to monitoring government work by directing oral and written questions to ministers, participating in accountability sessions and fact-finding committees, and evaluating public policies, with the aim of ensuring good public administration and linking responsibility with accountability.
However, it is also a role that involves representing citizens within the parliament for five years, by conveying their concerns and defending the issues of their electoral districts to the competent government authorities, and advocating for solutions to the problems that concern the population, in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and electoral laws.
We also know with certainty that a parliamentarian is not responsible for implementing projects or managing territorial collectivities. These tasks fall within the competencies of the government, territorial collectivities, and various public administrations. Their primary role remains legislation, oversight, advocacy, and representing citizens within parliament.
However, in contrast, an active and engaged parliamentarian remains a fundamental element in ensuring genuine representation of citizens, defending their interests, and contributing to the development of legislation and the improvement of public policies in a way that serves development and the public interest.
This is what every well-wisher hopes for: that the province of Settat, its residents' concerns, and their needs will be present within the parliamentary institution's work through advocating for issues aimed at raising the level of development in its various dimensions.
