The local judicial police in the city of Bouznika referred a 66-year-old Libyan national to the competent public prosecution on Saturday, September 26th, as he is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued against him by the Libyan judicial authorities.
The individual in question was arrested following security coordination between the police services in Bouznika and elements of the Royal Gendarmerie in Al Mansouria. His identification revealed that he was wanted internationally under a red notice listed in the database of the International Criminal Police Organization "Interpol," at the request of the Central National Bureau in Tripoli, for suspected involvement with an international drug trafficking network and escaping from a correctional facility.
According to initial investigation data, the Libyan security authorities arrested the suspect in 2002 on suspicion of involvement with a criminal network active in international drug trafficking. He was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment and managed to escape from prison in 2011.
The suspected foreigner was subjected to extradition procedures in implementation of the instructions of the competent public prosecution. The Central National Bureau "Interpol Rabat Office," affiliated with the General Directorate of National Security, was tasked with notifying its counterpart in Libya of the arrest for extradition proceedings.
The arrest of the suspect comes in the context of the commitment of Moroccan security services to activate international security cooperation mechanisms, particularly the pursuit and apprehension of individuals wanted internationally for transnational crimes.
