The name of the Egyptian international referee, Hamada El-Qallawi, who was appointed to officiate the match between the Moroccan national team and its Tunisian counterpart in the North African qualifiers for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, has sparked sarcastic reactions among match observers in Morocco.
This reaction is linked to the name "El-Qallawi," which in Moroccan colloquial carries an offensive connotation, making the referee's name the subject of sarcastic comments before the match. The Referees Committee of the North African Football Union appointed Hamada El-Qallawi as the main referee, assisted by Tunisian Yassine Ward Ben Salma as first assistant, and Egyptian Mohamed Magdy Suleiman as second assistant, while Libyan Abdelbaset Al-Shahob will be the fourth official. The task of referee supervisor was assigned to Algerian Jamal Hamoudi. The match will be held on Sunday evening, at 8 PM, at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia.
