The Royal Gendarmerie in Tahla, on Tuesday morning, September 29, managed to arrest two individuals on suspicion of their involvement in a fraud case against a citizen in the weekly market in the Zararda commune, after seizing an amount of 8500 dirhams, according to preliminary information.
According to the available information, the suspects, who are from outside the region, engaged in a conversation with the victim inside the market, before the incident, according to the initial account, developed into a state of distraction and confusion for the concerned party, ending with him handing over the financial sum to the suspects.
The same data indicates that the method used is suspected to be related to what is known locally as "Samaoui," which are fraudulent methods that rely, according to testimonies circulating in such cases, on luring the victim into a lengthy conversation and using phrases, murmurs, and prayers with the aim of influencing him and disrupting his concentration.
However, the attempt to leave the market was not completed, after the behavior of the suspects attracted the attention of a number of merchants and shoppers, who intervened and surrounded the concerned parties, before the arrival of the Royal Gendarmerie elements who took them into custody, along with the seized financial sum.
The arrested individuals were placed under theoretical surveillance, under the instructions of the competent public prosecution, for the purpose of deepening the investigation and uncovering all the circumstances and details of the incident, as well as verifying whether they have any connection to similar incidents that may have been recorded in other markets in the region.
This information remains preliminary until the judicial investigation is completed and legal consequences are determined in light of the investigations' findings.
