The United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy reiterated on Monday their support for efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East and reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

“We expressed our full support for ongoing efforts to ease tensions and reach a ceasefire and agreement on the release of hostages in Gaza,” a White House statement said.

The statement underlines the support of the five countries for the resumption of negotiations with the aim of concluding an agreement “as quickly as possible”.

There is “no more time to lose,” the signatories warned, urging the parties to the conflict to “assume their responsibility.”

According to the American press, negotiations on a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages will resume next Thursday in Qatar or Egypt to overcome the last obstacles to the conclusion of a long-awaited agreement.

Meanwhile, Washington and its European allies have stressed the need for “unhindered delivery and distribution of aid” in the Gaza Strip.
