HIBAPRESS – Tangier
"Eurogate Tangier," operator of a container terminal at the Tanger-Med port, faces an electronic threat of publishing internal data, allegedly stolen, in exchange for a ransom of $6 million, according to a report by cybersecurity firm "SOCRadar."
The specialized company stated that the hacking group known as "N0n" has listed the Moroccan operator among its targets, claiming to possess 354 electronic files totaling 660 megabytes, including commercial and operational documents, records related to containers and ships, as well as technical data concerning IT systems.
The group has set October 19th as a potential date for publishing these files if their demands are not met.
This threat comes as part of a campaign targeting, according to the report, 38 institutions active in the maritime transport, port, and logistics sectors, spread across 18 countries.
The group demands the ransom be paid in the digital currency "Bitcoin" and has also offered to open a negotiation channel for an amount up to $600,000, equivalent to 10 percent of the announced ransom.
In contrast, independent data confirming the validity of the hackers' claims or their actual possession of the mentioned data was not available, nor was there any announcement of operational disruptions at the "Eurogate Tangier" terminal due to this threat.
The "SOCRadar" report indicated that the maritime institutions listed by the group had not publicly confirmed being subjected to hacking at the time the report was prepared.
