HIBAPRESS – Rabat
King Mohammed VI appointed Najwa Kokous as Minister of Family, Social Development, and Equality within the new government, headed by Fatima Zahra Mansouri. She transitions from positions of party responsibility and parliamentary work to managing a sector linked to family, women, and social empowerment issues.
Kokous hails from the Derb Sultan neighborhood in Casablanca, where she received her education in public schools before pursuing her university studies at the Faculty of Law at Hassan II University, specializing in the legal field. This allowed her to combine academic training with political practice.
Najwa Kokous began her political career within the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), rising through its organizational structures. Starting in 2015, she chaired the party's youth organization, a position that enabled her to work on youth issues, political participation, and mentoring new generations.
The Casablanca native also gained experience in local governance through her membership in the Casablanca City Council before moving to the legislative institution, becoming one of the prominent female figures within the party.
In 2021, Kokous was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Casablanca-Settat region. There, she participated in legislative and oversight work, and her interest in human rights, equality, and parity became evident. She also chaired the parliamentary thematic working group responsible for equality and parity and participated in discussions on files related to strengthening women's rights and improving their conditions, which allowed her direct interaction with public policies targeting families and various social groups.
On the party level, Najwa Kokous was elected President of the National Council of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in 2024, taking on responsibility within one of the party's most prominent decision-making bodies and participating in the management of its organizational and political milestones.
With her appointment to head the Ministry of Family, Social Development, and Equality, Kokous enters a new phase of her career, where she will be required to translate her party and parliamentary experience into tangible programs and policies that address the challenges of protecting families, promoting equality, supporting social groups, and expanding opportunities for participation and empowerment.
