Immigration, public finances and US foreign policy were the main themes of Donald Trump’s interview with the owner of the X network, Elon Musk.

For more than two and a half hours, the two men, who share almost identical views on immigration, security, energy, business and the place the United States should occupy on the international stage, spoke on Monday evening in an exchange followed by nearly 1.4 million people, according to figures from the social network.

Addressing the issue of immigration, the Republican presidential candidate claimed that “more than 20 million people” have entered the United States illegally after “escaping from prisons, institutions and mental asylums.”

“These people come from all over the world. Not just Latin America, but also Africa, Asia and the Middle East,” he said.

Mr Trump has promised that if elected US president he will take all possible measures to “stop this flow”, recalling his immigration policies during his first presidential term from 2016 to 2020.

The discussion, which was interrupted at the beginning for more than half an hour due to, according to Musk, a cyber attack, also touched on public finances, which Mr. Trump stressed are mismanaged by the Democratic administration, and promised to “fix” them on his first day in the White House.

The candidate for the highest office of the United States also promised to restore his country to its former glory, stressing that if he were president, the wars and tensions that are plaguing the planet, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, could never have taken place under his presidency.

In this regard, he also focused on the United States’ relations with China, Russia, North Korea and Iran, which, he maintained, had great respect for his country under his presidency.

Mr. Trump has also been quick to sharply criticize his political rivals, particularly Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and current President Joe Biden.
