The curtain fell last Sunday on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with great disappointment for Moroccan sport, after the large sports delegation, which included 60 male and female athletes, failed to achieve an honorable record that gives Moroccan sport the status it deserves.
Except for the feat of international runner Sufyan Al-Bakali, who won a gold medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and saved the face of the Kingdom, in addition to the bronze medal of the football team led by Tariq Al-Sakitiwi, the rest of the participants in other sports were eliminated in the first rounds after marking disappointing participations that agitated public opinion. The Moroccan demanded accountability from the presidents of the universities concerned, who found no embarrassment – as usual – to justify this failure, which prompted the national sports public opinion to demand the activation of the accountability mechanism.
In the same context, Mohamed Al-Glousi, president of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Funds, said in a statement to “Heba Press” that the failure of sports universities in the Paris 2024 Olympics revealed their incapacity and even revealed their bankruptcy. because they have repeatedly accumulated defeats and disappointments, despite the fact that there are huge funds allocated to these universities without these funds having any impact on their results.
Al-Ghallusi went on to say that there are people who have been running universities for many years and have taken charge of the decision-making process there without bringing significant results to Moroccans, and some of them are quick to accept photos with some of the heroes who have achieved results through their individual efforts, noting that some university presidents master the policy of “gouging out eyes.”
The president of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Funds added: “Some university presidents who remained silent about the failure of the Paris Olympics are trying to reverse the situation by convincing Moroccans that these failures are in fact victories. They declared – Al-Gallousi added – that this is a result of the Paris Olympics that has never been achieved in previous Olympic Games.”
Al-Ghalousi considered, in a statement to the Heba Press newspaper, that the time has come to hold the officials of these universities accountable, not only by resigning or resigning, but also through a thorough review of the funds of these universities, a review that includes the expenses, compensations and salaries of these officials, because these are public funds that should not be wasted without supervision, stressing that the public prosecutor must respond to the voices of Moroccans who are raised on social networks, demanding that the officials of these universities be held accountable and end the era of impunity.
