The Americans lead the FIFA rankings and the Atlas Lionesses are first in the Arab world

A year after losing the first place, the American team managed to regain the first place in the women’s world ranking, thanks to its victory in the women’s Olympic football competition in Paris 2024, after beating Brazil. Thus, the American team won Olympic gold. the fifth time in its history, and the first since it achieved this feat in London in 2012 (that is, 12 years ago).
The England national team comes in second, followed by Spain, who fell to third place after losing two matches in Paris, namely the semi-final against Brazil and the match to determine the bronze medalist against Germany, who in turn maintained their place in the ranking, and the same goes for Japan, whose players lost the quarter-final match against America.
Ironically, the biggest loser this Olympic month is the host team, France, who went from second place to being on the verge of being eliminated from the Big Ten club, following Brazil’s quarter-final exit, and a weaker-than-expected showing in the Big Ten group stage. It is worth noting that the sudden defeat to Ireland in July in the build-up to the Olympics was an indication that the Roosters’ national team had lost momentum and now finds itself in its worst position since September 2019.
The Atlas Lionesses are ranked 59th in the world in this month’s FIFA rankings, first in the Arab world and third in Africa after the Nigerians and the South Africans.
