Agadir: Taxi drivers’ behavior harms the profession and causes customer discontent

The increase in unprofessional behaviors of a group of small taxi drivers in Agadir who deliberately select customers based on the destinations they prefer to go to, contrary to the requirements of the profession which requires transporting the customer to the destination they wish to go to. The considerations that govern these behaviors, which arouse customer dissatisfaction and provoke verbal altercations that can sometimes turn into clashes, are represented by the preference of a certain number of small taxi drivers to avoid going to destinations known to be crowded (Corniche, Marina, Tequin, etc.) and instead choose “comfortable” destinations. “Their biggest concern is the cost of the journey calculated per meter, far from traffic constraints.
In train stations, neighborhoods, department stores or attraction areas that experience a high influx of Agadir residents and their visitors during the current summer, there may be no small taxis, while their drivers begin to select customers according to the directions they wish to go. This category of drivers, in flagrant violation of state decisions regulating the small taxi sector, also insists on avoiding transporting two or three passengers together, even if they belong to the same family, as they plan to board each customer separately until they have completed the journey. three seats and transport them to nearby destinations in order to make a greater financial profit, which makes some mothers with their children find it extremely difficult to find a taxi. This category of drivers justifies these behaviors by the constraints of traffic congestion on a certain number of axes and roads in the city of Agadir, emphasizing that they experience difficulties in collecting (Rosetta) due to traffic congestion and the lack of understanding of customers of their situation.
Regarding large taxis, a significant shortage was noted in the transportation of citizens to their destinations from Agadir to the local authorities, particularly “Taghazout”, where there are two important beaches (Klm 25, Imi and Dar) due to the lack of drivers heading to these places due to traffic jams, which means that citizens live in misery every day due to the lack of transport.
Contrary to this situation, the Agadir prefecture has not taken any decision regarding the regulation of the small taxi sector, protects the rights of citizens and imposes strict and disciplinary measures on those who violate it.
