Monkey pox: How to protect yourself…

the local health department
Since infection with monkeypox is only possible through close contact with infected people and the shared use of objects and surfaces, contact with sick people or contacts should be avoided.
If you have been in close contact with an infected person, contact your local health department.
Vaccination
Vaccines developed to protect against human smallpox also work against monkeypox. Since 2013, a smallpox vaccine that is better tolerated than older smallpox vaccines has been approved in the European Union. It can be given to people over 18 years of age.
The vaccine should be administered as soon as possible after contact, at the latest within 14 days.
In addition, vaccination is currently recommended for homosexual men who have sexual contacts with frequently changing partners and for employees working in special laboratories. General vaccination is not recommended.
The local public health department is available to provide information and advice. Cases of monkeypox should be reported as quickly as possible.
