Twenty-eight cases of monkeypox, including one death, have been reported in Ivory Coast, the National Institute of Public Hygiene (INHP) has reported.

“28 cases of Mpox were recorded as of August 20, including one death,” the INHP stressed, quoted by the media, recalling that an initial assessment established on August 1 in Côte d’Ivoire reported six “non-fatal” cases.

For Dr. Daouda Coulibaly of the INHP, “the situation is not alarming”, estimating that “we are at the beginning of a nascent epidemic, there is no outbreak”.

And to continue that “surveillance is reinforced” because it is a question of breaking the chains of transmission, of identifying the contacts of the cases and thereby, of isolating and monitoring them.

The Democratic Republic of Congo remains the most affected country, with at least 16,000 cases, including 548 deaths.

The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a “public health emergency of international concern” on August 14.
