The elective general assembly of the African Rescue Academy (AAS) was held yesterday Wednesday in Barrechid, with the participation of several African federations and others present via videoconference technology, as well as members of the African Rescue Academy (AAS).

In this regard, Ali Gharbal, who was elected president of the AAS, said that the Academy has returned to its natural and original place, which is the Kingdom of Morocco, where it was founded in Rabat in 2017.

He added: The African Lifesaving Academy has been dominated in the last two years by the International Federation, which made it an International Academy, and monopolized by Algeria, which chaired it.

Ali Gharbal continued: “Today, with the participation of 18 African Federations, they marked the strong return of the “African Rescue Academy” in Morocco and voted unanimously that the headquarters of the Academy cannot go beyond the borders of the Kingdom of Morocco.”

Ali Gharbal stressed that the AAS is not affiliated with the International Federation and will operate independently.

It will specialize in training Africans without exception.

Gharbal revealed that the Academy will establish regional branches across the African continent, and that this body will have relations with the World Health Organization and the United Nations Security Council, as well as with non-governmental organizations and civil society known in the field of rescue and protection against drowning.

Ali Gharbal stressed that the African Academy had nothing to do with the International Lifesaving Federation, whose objective was to dominate the Academy to divert it from the sport of Lifesaving and the protection of drowning people.

The president concluded: “Today, Africans voted unanimously in favor of the African Academy, in particular to modify its statutes. The permanent headquarters and the presidency will be in Morocco, with work and cooperation with all African countries, in fulfillment of the Royal Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in the service of African countries and their youth,” concluded the official.

It is worth mentioning that the General Assembly elected the members of the Executive Board and all the structures of the African Rescue Academy.
