Water stress in Settat province calls for broader meeting to address the phenomenon

The governor of the province of Settat, Ibrahim Abou Zeid, reviewed a series of measures to deal with the phenomenon of water stress, which has become a major phenomenon, through:
* Work on the organization and legalization of flows, in order to achieve the greatest possible water savings.
* Combat fraud, waste and loss of water, by preserving the strategic reserve of water sources, and by activating the interventions of the services in charge of water policing.
* Procedures to support the implementation of projects, working without delay on the projects included in the framework of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020-2027, and the rest of the other projects.
* Mobilization and awareness campaigns, by further mobilizing the various stakeholders concerned and ensuring the involvement of the population to respond to measures aimed at ensuring good governance of water sources and managing water stress, by organizing awareness campaigns with the participation of civil society, due to the importance of rationalizing water consumption and the measures taken by public authorities to achieve the desired objectives.
This meeting took place on the sidelines of an expanded meeting aimed at implementing the high royal instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God grant him victory and support, and keeping pace with government procedures related to the management of the water problem. In the presence of the head of the Department of Internal Affairs, men of the authority and security services, the director of equipment and water of the province of Settat, the acting regional director of drinking water, the acting general director of water and electricity distribution, Chaouia, the representative of the Bouregreg Hydrographic Basin Agency, and the representative of the Umm Er-Rbia Hydrographic Basin Agency.
During the interview, the regional governor stressed the importance of this issue because it is the topic of the hour, given the challenges that our country in general and the Settat region in particular are facing due to successive years of drought, the weakness of water resources and the decline in the capacity of dams. He discussed the measures taken, the extent of their effectiveness on the ground and the resulting impact.
The efforts of the regional and local authorities were recognized and the interventions of a number of external interests were heard, including from the representative of the National Office of Drinking Water, the representative of the Umm Al-Rbia Hydrographic Basin Agency, in addition to the director of the Independent Agency for Water and Electricity Distribution in Chaouia.
In the same context, the regional speaker indicated that in order to achieve the desired results, all actors who have a direct and indirect relationship must be involved in this issue, which concerns a vital and strategic material that concerns the sovereignty of water in Morocco, by following measures aimed, on the one hand, at raising awareness among water users of the danger. The situation, on the other hand, indicates the need to maintain food and water security, which must result in significant savings for this vital material.
