The General Directorate of National Security recorded, regarding traffic accidents in urban areas alone, during a week from August 5 to 11 of this month, approximately 21 deaths and 2,682 injuries, including 103 seriously injured, in 1,989 road accidents.

A report from the National Security Directorate General attributes the main reasons that led to the occurrence of these accidents, in particular, to the lack of attention of drivers, failure to respect the right of way, failure to respect a safety distance, inattention of pedestrians. , excessive speed, failure to respect the stop imposed by the “Stop” sign, and lack of control. Unauthorized change of direction, change of direction without signal, driving on the left, failure to respect the stop imposed by the “Stop” sign. a red light, faulty overtaking, driving in a prohibited direction and driving while intoxicated.

Regarding the surveillance and repression operations in the traffic and in the Golan area, the same source added, the security services were able to record 43,610 violations, complete 6,787 reports which were transmitted to the public prosecutor and extract 36,823 conciliation fines, bringing the amount obtained to 8 million 37 thousand 275 dirhams.

The report states that the number of vehicles placed in the municipal pound reached 4,738 vehicles, the number of documents withdrawn was 6,787 documents and the number of vehicles subject to arrest was 249 vehicles.
