Moroccan Abdel Ilah Kani settles for money after Georgian delegation objects
Morocco’s Abdelilah Kani settled for a silver medal in the shot put, instead of the gold he was expected to win in the Paralympic athletics competition at the Paralympic Games currently taking place in Paris, after the Georgian delegation objected.
The Moroccan delegation had lodged an objection claiming that the final throw by Georgian Gera Ochkhkidze, the gold medal winner, was illegal, and it was awarded to the Moroccan champion while the Georgian’s results were withdrawn in full, before the decision was appealed and the first ranking was re-approved.
Kanye won the silver medal after clearing 9.22m, behind Georgia’s Gera Ochkhkidze, who cleared 9.66m, breaking Kanye’s world record for the competition (8.84m).
The bronze medal went to Iranian Mokhtari Hemami Ai Reza, who achieved a jump of 8.69 m.
This is the fifth medal for Morocco at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, after the bronze medal of runner Ayman El Haddaoui in the 100m in the T47 category, Ayoub Adweesh in the -63kg category in the K44 category, Raja Akramash in the +65kg category in the same category in parataekwondo, and the silver medal of runner Zahraa Al-Idrissi in the 1500m (T13).
