We would like to discuss the career of a prominent personality and member of this Committee. Who is Colonel Elisabeth Camara?
The story of this soldier, met in 2023 at the Royal Gendarmerie School in Casablanca (Morocco) left a lasting impression on us.
Lieutenant-colonel of the National Gendarmerie of Guinea, she shows from the beginning no
only his total support for his hierarchy, but also and above all for General Mamadi Doumbouyah. Undoubtedly, the Guinean head of state and president of the CNRD has granted a significant place to the women of the Republic of Guinea since his arrival in power (September 5, 2021).
The higher military career of Colonel Elisabeth Camara in Morocco is part of this framework: “
The emancipation of African women also involves this, and in the Guinean army, General Mamady Doumbouyah is a pioneer,” she declared on this occasion.
This is a strong message sent by the President to women, and more particularly to
military women. In fact, since the creation of this program, more than 25 years ago, it has been
the only woman to have completed the Senior Officers’ Course (COS) of the Royal School of
Officers of the Casablanca Gendarmerie.
By integrating her into this course, Guinea, through Lieutenant-Colonel Elisabeth Camara, is
entry into the history of this School, which welcomes every year the elite of officers from all over
Africa. In 25 years, only Guinea has sent a woman there, chosen as primus inter pares.
Undoubtedly, President Mamady Doumbouyah has succeeded in changing the status of the
“Woman” where other heads of state had failed or had not considered it a priority.
This course (similar to that of the War School in France) is intended for officers of the rank of
commander and lieutenant colonel having exercised command within territorial units,
as assistants to regional commanders or in the services and large formations of
the Army. These senior officers must hold the Application Course diploma (as
as second lieutenant) and the Captains’ Course.
The only woman in the 27th class and the first in the history of this formation, Colonel
Elisabeth Camara has won the admiration of her peers as well as the entire management of the School.
Royal.
Imposing by her character and her posture, this forty-year-old obtained her diploma with the
congratulations from the faculty, leaving behind the image of an exemplary, disciplined officer,
rigorous and deeply attached to his army.
Upon her return to Guinea she was promoted to colonel by General Mamady Doumbouyah, illustrating
once again the importance that the power of Conakry gives to youth and women
Guinean. We note, in this context, that the governor of the city of Conakry is
also a woman.
Highly appreciated by her comrades, Colonel EC is today an officer who demonstrates a
exceptional career and a role model for military women. A 44-year-old senior officer,
She joined the army at the age of 14.
Passionate, honest, dynamic and persevering, Colonel Elisabeth Camara is respected throughout the Guinean army. She is currently commander of the special brigade near the banks and insurance companies of the Republic of Guinea.
She is undeniably an example of success and discipline, particularly in the gendarmerie.
national, with solid training and a remarkable career in a country where
women are often destined for subordinate roles.
Through it, we wish a happy third birthday to General Mamady Doumbouyah, to all members of the CNRD and to the entire Guinean army.
