Vinicius Junior’s statements accusing Spain of racism have sparked a wave of controversy in the Real Madrid dressing room, as the players reacted strongly to the issue, and captain Dani Carvajal did not hesitate to respond to it.
“Finney” made some exciting statements in an interview with the American channel “CNN”, in which he said: “I hope that Spain will develop and understand the seriousness of insulting a person because of the color of their skin, because if things do not develop by 2030, the location of the World Cup must be changed.
Vinicius’ statements did not stop at the borders of La Liga this time, but rather sparked widespread discussion among his Real Madrid colleagues, who expressed their solidarity with their Brazilian colleague, who has been subjected to racist insults on several occasions because of the colour of his skin.
But at the same time, they believe the issue requires a balance between supporting the players and protecting Spain’s image as a country preparing to host major sporting tournaments such as the 2030 World Cup in partnership with Morocco and Portugal.
Dani Carvajal, captain and teammate of the Spanish national team, responded to these statements by saying: “There is no doubt that Spain is not a racist country. Since my childhood, I grew up in a neighborhood of Beleganes that brings together many nationalities and I have not witnessed any racist manifestations.
In his statements, reported by the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Carvajal stressed the importance of rejecting any form of racism in stadiums, saying: “We fully support Vinicius, both internally in the club and publicly in front of the public.”
The Real Madrid captain explained that La Liga is making great efforts to combat racism: “I think La Liga is improving and working to develop protocols to prevent troublemakers from returning to sporting events. But apart from that, I don’t think Spain deserves to be stigmatized by racism or to be deprived of hosting the World Cup.”
