Yesterday, the first confirmed case of monkeypox was discovered in Morocco, more precisely in the city of Marrakech, and concerns a person who works in one of the hotel establishments of the Red City.
The discovery of monkeypox in Morocco has sparked controversy on social media, with some activists going so far as to say that if the virus spreads widely, authorities could resort to quarantine again, as was the case years ago during the Covid period.
Although the modes of infection between the Corona virus and monkeypox differ, fears of a new imposition of quarantine and a new resort to mass vaccination have resurfaced in the discussions of Moroccans on social networks, even if the case remains highly unlikely.
