The city of Fnideq was known for the influx of thousands of young people, adolescents and minors wishing to cross the land border towards the city of Ceuta.
This came in response to calls on social media to make September 15 the date for mass migration to Europe.
Economist Zakaria Karti noted that the events occurring in northern Morocco are due to the economic and social situation and the state of frustration experienced by these young people.
He wrote on his official Facebook page: “The events in northern Morocco and the mass flight to Ceuta undoubtedly show that significant categories of citizens do not find themselves in the current national narrative.”
He added: “A number of social and economic projects, despite their importance, do not give sufficient confidence in the future and do not cover the growing level of frustration of a large number of citizens.”
He concluded by saying: “It is important that we ask the right questions about the causes and repercussions of these frustrations and have the courage to answer them unambiguously.”
It should be noted that the Moroccan authorities have reinforced their security arsenal to prevent this mass flight to occupied Ceuta.
