16 people were killed and 2,587 others were injured, including 115 seriously injured, in 1954 in a road accident within urban areas, during the week of September 9-15.
A report from the General Directorate of National Security attributes the main reasons that led to the occurrence of these accidents, in particular to the inattention of drivers, failure to respect the right of way, excessive speed, inattention of pedestrians, failure to respect safety distances, lack of control, unauthorized change of direction and failure to respect the stop imposed at the “Stop” sign, change of direction without signal, driving on the left, failure to respect the stop imposed at a red light, driving in the wrong direction, driving while intoxicated, as well as improper overtaking.
Regarding the surveillance and restriction operations in the field of traffic and the Golan, the same source added that the security services were able to record 47,419 violations, complete 7,481 reports which were forwarded to the public prosecutor and extract 37,938 conciliation fines, while the amount obtained amounts to 8 million and 113,000 and 725 dirhams.
The communication indicates that the number of vehicles registered in the municipal reservation reaches 4 thousand 481 vehicles, the number of documents withdrawn is 7481 documents and the number of vehicles subject to arrest 348 vehicles.
