The authorities of the capital Rabat, and perhaps the same approach in various city security commissions, have implemented Article 187 of the Highway Code on the road, which states that: “Any violation of the traffic rules established in application of Article 94 will be punished with a fine of (20) to (50) dirhams.
Recently, in the capital Rabat, many citizens were fined 25 dirhams by police officers for not using the pedestrian path.
It should be noted that the 25 dirham fine was first applied under the Benkirane government in 2017, and that it had then sparked widespread controversy in the Moroccan public street.
However, its implementation comes again after a number of cities witnessed fatal road accidents involving pedestrians who failed to respect their designated areas, and the random blocking of roads by pedestrians angered drivers and disrupted traffic in major cities.
