A blog post published by Al Jazeera Jamal Rayyan on social media sparked widespread controversy after making serious accusations against Syrians residing in Lebanon.
In his blog post, Rayyan claimed that some Syrians were involved in cooperation with Israel and providing it with information on Hezbollah leaders, stressing that this cooperation came in the context of the party’s military intervention in Syria.
Rayyan’s blog post said: “Beware of Syrians who have been harmed by Hezbollah’s intervention in Syria, whether out of revenge or other motives, they are leaking information to Israel about the names of the leaders of Hezbollah in order to liquidate them. »
These accusations triggered a wave of anger and gave rise to attacks against Syrians in the streets of Beirut, following the assassination of the secretary general of Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.
This controversial post prompted a number of activists and human rights defenders to launch a strong social media campaign demanding that journalist Rayyan be held accountable, prompting him to later delete his post.
Reports indicate that Al Jazeera reprimanded the journalist due to his unprofessional behavior.
Activists on social media have accused Al Jazeera of employing a person who incites the murder of Syrians, demanding that it be held accountable for this incitement against Syrians.
