It was then 9 a.m. this Thursday, September 26, Hervé Guihard, mayor of Saint-Brieuc, in Côtes-d’Armor, was injured in the head in the morning, at the Bistrot de la Poste, rue Saint-Gouéno, in the city center, an individual, armed with a knife, then hit Hervé Guihard in the head with its handle.
The arrest of the individual by the police was particularly difficult as the man was so angry. Still according to the mayor’s entourage, the suspect had gone to city hall before arriving at the café and was shouting that he wanted to kill the mayor. According to investigators, there is therefore no doubt that the suspect had come to kill Hervé Guihard. Nicolas Heitz, Public Prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc, will confirm the facts at the end of the afternoon during a press briefing.
The individual, aged around forty, comes across a waiter and asks him where the mayor is. He then warns him “that there is going to be an attack”. Agitated and threatening, the forty-year-old spots Hervé Guihard, seated at the back of the room with his team. The suspect will then refer to the 2023 attacks by ultra-right youth at an anti-fascist festival. Right after, he jumps on him. The mayor of Saint-Brieuc protected himself with his arm but received several blows with the handle of one of his attacker’s knives, to the head and face.
