The decision of the “Fogal” company, responsible for urban transport in the city of Taza, sparked a wave of criticism after announcing a further increase in the prices of membership cards. The Moroccan Association for Human Rights called the move illegal, saying the increases will put a strain on the pockets of low-income citizens who rely heavily on public transportation in their daily lives.
The same association called on the company’s management to reverse this measure, which it considers unfair towards the local population, in particular the poor class with meager incomes.
The Moroccan Association for Human Rights also held responsible the Taza Collective Council, whose president was recently removed by a global decision, demanding that it act to monitor and regulate the urban transport sector managed by the Fogal company.
The Moroccan Association for Human Rights considered that the Collective Council bears a great responsibility to ensure compliance with the compensation booklet agreed between the two parties, which specifies the conditions of service and its prices, in particular by protecting the rights citizens and ensuring the provision of quality services at appropriate prices.
The criticism does not stop there since the association points out that the company not only increased the price of membership cards, but also demanded the payment of 30 additional dirhams for the renewal of the cards, which contradicts the terms of the reduction book.
The association also warned that the current membership cost of 200 dirhams constitutes a heavy burden on vulnerable citizens, placing the company’s management and the Taza Collective Council in a position delicate in the face of growing demands from the population to improve quality. non-existent services and reduce costs.
