The “Protect The Dream” campaign, initiated by CAF, represents a significant step forward in the fight against trafficking and exploitation of football players. Headlining the project are African football legends such as Daniel Amokachi, Amanda Dlamini and Emmanuel Adebayor.
The slogan “Protect The Dream” was chosen to highlight the importance of protecting the well-being and integrity of African footballers. Through this campaign, initiatives will be deployed across the continent, and attractive content broadcast on CAF’s online platforms.
Football is a passion that thrills millions of Africans. It is essential that everyone, and especially young people, can practice this sport in a safe and fulfilling environment.
Faced with the rise in exploitation of young African talents, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has strengthened its prevention measures with the launch of the #ProtectTheDream initiative, which aims to protect the well-being of all African footballers .
The main goal of this educational campaign is to raise awareness among players about the dangers of trafficking and exploitation. The campaign also provides tools to build the confidence of young footballers through communication training. She values their health and well-being while creating a safe and supportive environment.
Launched during the recent final of the African School Football Championship in Zanzibar, the #ProtectTheDream campaign benefits from the support of major figures in African football such as Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Amanda Dlamini (South Africa) and Daniel Amokachi ( Nigeria), who are actively engaged alongside CAF to raise public awareness of this cause.
As part of its collaborative initiatives, CAF works to create a safe and supportive environment for young African football talents, and #ProtectTheDream is fully part of this effort.
Earlier this year, CAF partnered with Mission 89, an international organization specializing in research, education and advocacy, to combat the exploitation of young athletes. Through this partnership, awareness workshops on player trafficking were organized with the 54 CAF member associations and zonal unions.
“Football has the power to transform lives, as it changed mine. But unfortunately, some dishonest agents take advantage of this opportunity to exploit African talents. This is why it is crucial that CAF takes a stand with the launch of the ‘Protect The Dream’ program, in order to protect the future of football in Africa,” said Emmanuel Adebayor.
CAF encourages young football players, professionals, as well as their parents, guardians and academies to engage in this educational campaign. This will be available in various easily accessible formats such as lectures, workshops, videos, podcasts and other engaging content on CAF’s digital platforms.
Soon, CAF will unveil other partners with whom it will work to carry out this initiative aimed at preserving the well-being and integrity of players.
