Mohammed V University of Rabat: Recommendations of the Conference of Diplomats on Medical Tourism in Africa

The conference entitled “Morocco, Flagship Destination of Medical Tourism in Africa” was held on October 4, 2024 at the Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5R). Co-organized by the Trophée de l’Africanité Foundation and UM5R, this event brought together experts and personalities from various backgrounds, highlighting Morocco as a leader in the medical tourism sector thanks to reforms aimed at improving its health system and its tourist infrastructure.

Professor Farid El Bacha, Acting President of UM5R, underlined the university’s commitment to inter-African solidarity, in harmony with the Royal Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Dr. Nasrallah Belkhayate, President of the Trophée de l’Africanité Foundation, introduced the project of the Atlantic Federation of Medical Research, which aims to facilitate access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic corridor.

Emmanuel Saye Larmeh, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Liberia and President of the Association of African Diplomats in Morocco, insisted on the need for increased diplomatic mobilization to support Morocco.

The key interventions were marked by that of Dr. Nawal Rabii, president of the AMPBD, who addressed oral and dental prevention initiatives, as well as by Dr. Ilham Moumna, medical biologist, who highlighted the importance of medical biology in medical tourism. Dr. Younes Kbibchi, university professor, also presented public health challenges in Africa and made recommendations based on the discussions. The ceremony honored three personalities for their commitment to Africa, namely, Pr. Farid EL BACHA, president of the Mohammed V University of Rabat, Dr Nawal RABII, president of the Africa Regional Organization. International Dental Federation (AMPBD) and Mr. Emmanuel Saye LARMEH, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Liberia and President of the Association of African Diplomats in Morocco. Additionally, the event celebrated the success of eight doctors who obtained their Masterclass diploma.

An agreement was signed between the AMPBD and the Trophée Foundation for the launch of medical caravans in Africa, thus promoting health and solidarity.

The recommendations made by Prof. Younes Kbibchi aim to strengthen Morocco’s medical-tourist image, establish ethical standards and develop appropriate infrastructure, thus consolidating Morocco’s position as a leader in medical tourism in Africa.
