The phenomenon of aging cannot be dissociated from the demographic transition since it is undoubtedly its product. Indeed, the decline in fertility and that of mortality are at the origin of the demographic aging of populations which considerably affects the age pyramids.
Demographic transition:
Over the last two or three decades, Morocco has experienced very significant changes in several aspects, both economic, social and cultural. The demographic aspect, too, has not escaped this transformation since demographic variables remain dependent on the change which affects the socio-economic context in which they evolve.
Indeed, if we refer to population growth, we note that Morocco experienced the fastest rate of growth before the 1980s, having posted annual growth rates of around 3%. This maximum growth places Morocco, according to the theoretical diagram, at this time, at the start of the second phase of the demographic transition characterized by a regular but attenuated decline in mortality. The birth rate, for its part, continued to show higher levels and only began its decline years after that of mortality.
Strong growth was favored by great progress in health matters (advances in medicine, the use of antibiotics, vaccination, hygiene, etc.), having led to a decline in mortality, particularly infant mortality, on the one hand, and subsequently to the decline in the birth rate on the other hand.
