The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, made public, Thursday, his annual report on the Moroccan Sahara, in which he recommends to the Security Council to extend the mandate of Minurso by one year, until October 31, 2025 .

As in previous years, this report addresses recent developments in the Moroccan Sahara issue, both on the ground and at the international level.

It provides an overview of the evolution of the political process since last October until now.

It also addresses the security aspects in relation to the action of Minurso, particularly with regard to its civilian activities and the challenges encountered in the implementation of its mandate.

The report also examines the question of human rights, highlighting assistance to populations sequestered in the Tindouf camps, as well as the protection of human rights in the Moroccan Sahara and the violations of rights and fundamental freedoms in the camps.

It concludes with recommendations, including, in particular, the extension of the mandate of Minurso for a period of 12 months.

The Security Council will meet on October 30 to adopt the new resolution on the Moroccan Sahara, which will be presented by the American penholder.
