Spanish authorities have opened an in-depth investigation into the assassination of Moroccan rapper Said Laarj, whose body was found in the Roldan district of Murcia, bearing obvious traces of beatings and violence.
Spanish media revealed that the body was found Thursday morning by a neighbor in an empty space near the family home, and that the injuries he suffered, particularly to the head, indicate a violent attack.
The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed that there was strong evidence of violence, leading them to investigate several hypotheses regarding the crime, including the possibility of a score settling, although his family denied this possibility.
Saeed, 30, was also known in the rap scene for addressing social issues such as racism and Islamophobia in his songs. He previously worked in agriculture, but epilepsy prevented him from continuing to work regularly.
His brother Nordin stressed that Saeed led a quiet life and had no enmity in the town where the family had lived for 20 years.
He said his brother’s injuries could not have been the result of a fall due to an epileptic seizure, but rather appeared to have been caused by a blow with a sharp object.
